Today I started listening to clay aiken's first album measure of a man again! and somehow i simply can't help but think that his song lyrics are actually pretty good. When i first listened to the cd a few years back i'll just listen to every track and be ho-hum about the lyrics. But now that i HAVE grown up a little i pay more attention to them, and maybe cus i'm under the influence of yujie's strange fetish for beautiful lyrics. The only reason for me digging up song lyrics a few years ago was simply to find out what the various singers are mumbling about in their songs. but now it's different! Let's take at a portion of clay aiken's "i survived you" lyrics for example:I see the picture clear now, the fog has lifted. The wool you tried to pull over my eyes was clever.Yeah you're gifted. But you forgot to dot some I's, and cross some T's along the way.I'm better now despite you baby.I'm stronger these days.Stronger.uhh it's so mushy. any song with the word 'baby' is mushy. but anyway, a few years back i'll just be listening out for thoseoh-so-fascinating rhyme schemes. I'll notice crap like lifted rhyming with gifted, way somewhat rhyming with days and then envy whoever it was behind this awesome rhyming scheme. BUT NOW, i actually wonder what stuff like "dot some I's and cross some T's" actually mean! and even appreciate the fact that whoever wrote the lyrics bothered to go with something more profound when perhaps he could've just said "you are not smart enough for me", or something like that. and then there's this other song "shine" and a part of its lyrics goes: Everything you are.Everywhere you've been. The sinner, and the saint that fight the battle within.Everyplace you go.Everybody knows.Shadows fall across the sun sometimes.Shine.Your gonna shine.ben rhymes with within! but now I start to realise that "shadows fall across the sun sometimes" is rather...witty. stuff like that.conclusion: growing old makes you weird. even this post is weird too.
