hello you all i'm going to wish you all a merry christmas, hari raya haji and a happy new year to prepare you for the real deal on dec 25, 31 and jan 1.wait, WHAT? what's hari raya haji doing in december?!? it's supposed to be in january!:Ooh but no you ignorant critters you're wrong! -blank stares-hari raya haji is celebrated by the muslims on the tenth day of the islamic month of dhul hijja, the last month in the Islamin calendar. This year it lands on Decemeber 30/31, depending where you are in the world. Following me? Good. While hari raya haji always lies on the same date in the Islamic calendar, its date changes every year on the gregorian calendar, which is the calendar we are following. So why the difference? Because the Islamic calendar is a lunar calendar and the gregorian calendar is a solar calendar. A lunar calendar is a calendar whose date indicates the moon phase. This is normally done by having a month which corresponds to a lunation so that the day of month indicates the moon phase. For some lunar calendars, such as the Chinese calendar, the first day of the month is determined by the day during which the moment of new moon arrives, according to a particular time zone. Many other lunar calendars are based on first sighting of the lunar crescent. Thus, different lunar calendars differ in which day is considered the first day of the month.Meanwhile, a solar calendar is a calendar whose dates indicate the position of the earth on its revolution around the sun (or equivalently the apparent position of the sun moving on the celestial sphere). I don't know what this is supposed to mean, but i think this causes the first day of the month in a gregorian calendar to be similar, unlike in the lunar calendar.Still following me? No you aren't you liar even I don't understand what I am copy and pasting.and with that i end my abysmal attempt to educate the world. oh yeah, and playing cards at winifred's house yesterday was fun (: i'm so ready to take on the world.
